Type Locality and Naming

Along the Oybadam stream, Turkestan Range. D.A. Starshinin in 1985 studied carbonate deposits of Upper Silurian–Devonian in the Chumkartau Mountains (460, p. 123). Stratotype at the Oybadam gorge, lower part of the Shingak River valley.

Synonym: Oybadamskaya Suite, Ойбадамская св., Oibadam Fm; Oybadam Limestone Fm; Oybadam Suite


Lithology and Thickness

Bedded dolomitic limestones, often organogenic, with rare dolomite layers. Thickness: 400-800m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Shingak Fm

Upper contact

Transgressively overlain by the carbonate rocks of the Urmitan Fm.

In the limestones, brachiopods Conchidiella pseudobaschkirica Tschern. and others of the Eifelian stage, rugose corals - Dendrostella trigemma Quendst., Neospongphyllum ex gr. variabile Wd. and others of the Givetian stage.
